In this article, we discuss how to add a new zone.

Create a New Zone

Create a new zone by following the steps below:

  1. Go to the path below:

Admin Center → Zoning → New Record

2. Provide the required information:

  • A value for your zone in the Name field using only alphabetic, numeric, and space characters. For example, you can use "Zone 1."

  • You can provide the city name for your zone in the optional City Name field. This field can be left empty. It serves the purpose of facilitating the differentiation of zones, particularly useful when dealing with a large number of created zones. The City Name field is utilized exclusively within the administrative sections of the software and remains hidden from users. For instance, you could input "Toronto" as a value for the City Name.

  • For the "Status" field, you can indicate the current state of the zone. You have two options to choose from, and one of them must be selected:

    • Active: Selecting this option will make the zone immediately active after creation.

    • Deactivate: Choosing this option will result in the zone not being active right after creation. However, you will retain the ability to activate it at a later time.

3. Draw your zone using the following instructions:

  • Locate your designated zone on the map. For instance, if you're creating a zone for the city of Busselton in Australia, utilize the Zoom In/Out features. These controls are situated in the upper-left corner of the map. Alternatively, you can also employ Ctrl + Mouse Wheel Scroll to zoom when your mouse cursor is positioned on the map.

  • To outline the zone, use one of two available shapes:

    • Polygon: This shape allows you to accurately draw zones with multiple sides, ideal for precise boundary definition.

    • Rectangle: Rectangles are suitable for cases where boundary accuracy is less critical.

When you select a shape, your cursor will change to a + sign, enabling you to draw the zone.

For Polygon shapes, simply click to place vertices. The final vertex connects to the first one, completing the shape. You can also use the Finish button after placing the last vertex. If needed, remove a vertex using the Delete Last Point button or press Cancel to clear the shape.

Make sure to use a maximum number of 80 to 100 dots when creating a zone with polygon. You may get a “Zone not found” error later on the applications and panels if you use too many dots.

For Rectangles, drag the mouse over the desired area to draw the zone. If the shape isn't satisfactory, use the Cancel button to erase it.

Define the zone's center, which serves as the focal point on the map. Click the Pin button and position the marker within the center of the designated area.

For editing purposes, including adjustments to the shape or marker position, utilize the Edit Layers tools located on the map's left side. To make changes, click the tool, then relocate points or the marker on the map. Click Save to preserve changes or Cancel to discard them.

  • You can delete layers during creating zones. For doing this, use the Delete Layers button located on the left of the map. When you click on this button, the mouse cursor turns to an “index finger of a hand” If you use it to click on a layer, the layer will be removed. To save the changes after removing layers, you can click on the Save button. You can also use the Clear All button to remove all the drawn layers at once or cancel the removing operation by the Cancel button.

4. To finalize the process of creating a zone, click the Submit button to register all zone information:

To ensure that the drawn zones do not share a common border, it is crucial to be careful and avoid overlapping with neighboring zone boundaries. Each zone must maintain its distinct borders without overlapping with others. To facilitate this, pre-existing zones are visible during the drawing process; however, modifications cannot be applied to them. If adjustments to pre-established zones are necessary, you can make these changes through the Edit section.

The drawn zones are displayed in blue and red. Blue means the zone is active and red means it is inactive.

In drawing the shape of the zone, use as few points as possible. Fewer points make it easier to process and edit and reduce the likelihood of disruption.
