How to create a new route

In P&D order type, create routes via Dispatcher: add orders, assign drivers, and optimize routes.

Updated this week

In the P&D order type, we add orders to routes and assign them to drivers to optimize and complete them.

There are two ways to create routes. One option is to create them while updating the status. To do this, follow the path below:

Dispatcher → Orders tab → Select orders → Edit status → Select updated status → Add route

Check the “Update status article” to learn more about this path:

Or you can go to the Dispatcher Panel by following the path below:

Dispatcher → Routes (in the sidebar)

On the Routes page, click the + button in the top-right corner to add a new route.

1. Route info

  • Route name: The name selected for this route

  • Start Date & Time: The date and time that the driver is supposed to start the route. It can be different from the actual time the route is started.

Each stop ETA will be calculated based on the start time, and after the driver actually starts the route, the stops' ETA will be updated based on the actual time.

Stops ETA will update automatically after some driver or dispatcher actions, such as:

  • Completion time of each stop

  • Adding a stop to the route

  • Removing a stop from the route

  • Optimizing the route

  • Reordering stops manually

  • Reassigning the route to a driver (after it has started)

You can set a default start time for your routes. See how to do so here.

2. Locations

Now, specify the route location. You can choose either an address or a warehouse. Select the Address tab if you’re entering an address, or switch to the Warehouse tab to choose a warehouse.

To learn more about warehouse locations, check here.

  • Start location: The driver’s start location for this route. Type the address and select the correct option from the results.

  • End location (Optional): Where the driver finishes the route. You can leave this blank as it is optional.

If you don't specify an end location, any stop on the route can be the final stop, depending on the route optimization. However, if you do choose an end location, the route optimization will always make that the final stop, no matter what.

3. Options

  • Load deliveries:

    • No: The driver can start the route without loading deliveries.

    • Optional: The driver can choose to scan delivery orders to load them or start the route without loading.

    • Force: The driver must scan delivery orders to load them when they first start the route at the warehouse/hub.

4. Driver

  • Manual: Select and assign a driver to this route.

  • Unassigned: Leave the route unassigned. You can assign a driver to this route later.
