How to replace the default zone with a new zone

Learn how to replace your current default zone with a new one.

Updated over 2 weeks ago

At some point, you may want to update your default zone, replace it with a new one, or remove it entirely and start fresh. But when you try to delete it, the system stops you with an error: the default zone can't be deleted.
โ€‹

In this guide, we'll walk you through exactly how to do that, step by step.

Why does the default zone matter? The default zone controls several key parts of the system, including the default location of the monitoring map on the admin dashboard, the services loaded on the initial page of the customer application, and the default map location in both the customer application and the dispatcher panel.

Replace Your Default Zone

Before proceeding with removing the current default zone, you need to create a new zone by navigating to:
โ€‹

Admin Center -> Settings -> Operation Setup -> Zoning -> New (button)

For step-by-step instructions on creating a new zone, please take a look at this guide.

Please note that if your new zone overlaps with the current default zone, the overlapping areas won't be selectable when drawing the new zone's boundaries. To avoid this, update the overlapping sections from the existing default zone first, then go ahead and create your new zone.

Changing the system default zone

Now that you have an alternative zone, itโ€™s time to change the system's default zone by navigating to:
โ€‹

Admin Center -> Settings -> General -> Project Settings -> Default zone (option)

In the Default Zone dropdown, select your new zone and click Save Changes to apply the update.

You can now navigate back to Admin Center -> Settings -> Operation Setup -> Zoning to safely delete your previous default zone if you no longer need it.
