What is POD?

Learn about Proof of Delivery (POD) using signatures, photos, or notes to confirm deliveries, ensuring secure and efficient order completion

Updated over 2 weeks ago

POD, which stands for proof of delivery, is a method used to establish the fact that a recipient received goods sent by a sender. POD is an essential part of the last-mile delivery industry. While the use of paper in traditional methods was common, today, technology is employed for POD. The Onro software uses E-POD (electronic proof of delivery), making the proof of delivery easier. In this method, there is no need to keep physical documents because the information is stored in the order data as soon as the driver completes it. Additionally, POD information can be displayed to the customer in real time.

Components of POD

Obtaining a customer's signature is commonly used as a method of POD. However, in addition to the signature, it is also possible to take a photo or write a note:

  • Signature

  • Photo

  • Barcode

  • Notes

Signature

Signatures have typically been a common method of authentication and are also used in the POD process. The signature is captured through the driver application, and the signer is the recipient of the order.

Photo

Using the driver application, you can capture and upload one or more photos as part of the POD process. Depending on your approach, these photos can feature the recipient with the package, just the package, or the drop-off environment.

Barcode

Drivers can scan the barcode of one or multiple packages through the driver app to automatically capture delivery information. This updates the system in real-time, reducing manual entry and errors, and ensuring accurate tracking and reliable delivery records.

Notes

The driver application provides this option, as the driver may need to write a description for POD or dropoff.
